Wrapping a Sari




Step
1



Step into the
petticoat
and tie it securely. The sari will be tucked into the waistband of your petticoat, so it is important that is is secure.

Tuck the plain end of the sari into the waistband of the petticoat and wrap the sari from right to left, one full wrap around your body. The end of the sari should be touching the floor.

Beginning with the material closet to your body, fold the sari into 5-inch pleats. Make 5 to 7 pleats. Make sure that you keep the pleats straight and keep them pinched tightly together. The pleats should hang neatly to the floor.

Bring the pleats to the left of your navel and tuck them into the waist of the petticoat.

Bring the plain end of the sari around your body for an addition complete right to left wrap. The sari should be touching the floor.

The material that has not been tucked or pleated is called the pallu. Bring the pallu over your shoulder and secure it with a safety pin.
